Want to eat a 22-karat gold coated Burrata?

Dubai’s most famous market, the Gold Souk is generally considered to be the largest gold bazaar in Arabia and one of the best places in the world to shop for fine gold, whether you’re looking for big-ticket items or everyday wear.

But where does one go to eat gold when in the Emirates?

You head towards the Italian restaurant Cinque located at the ground floor of the Palm Jumeira Hotel in Dubai and order the dish Gold Sheikh Burrata. It would set you back US$ 55, but will serve between two and four people – depending on how much you love cheese.

Burrata, perceived as an high-end cheese, originating from Puglia in Italy, is as white as mozzarella but comes with a strange narrowing at the top like a giant dumpling. As you cut through the sachet, the rich filling made of cream and mozzarella strips oozes out and spreads across the plate. Rolling the mozzarella strips with your fork like spaghetti, and with cream dripping, you bite into it – to be hit by an explosion of milk mixed with sweet cream and mozzarella.

What Chef Giuseppe has done is to fully coat the usual 250g portion of the creamy Burrata cheese with edible 22 – karat gold. How it came about is when he decided to create something different for a very special local VIP who regularly frequented the restaurant and always ordered a Burrata.

So he came up with the idea of wrapping the usual Burrata with 22 karat edible gold to wow that particular guest. Since then, it has become a signature dish on the menu and is a favourite of all regular guests as well as been the most frequently requested item.

Served with the juiciest tomatoes, rocket and truffle not only does it delivers a burst of sensory explosions from the first bite… it will also certainly turn heads as it comes to your table.

Looking to eat more gold? Then head to WHITE beach for one of the most decadent desserts you’ll encounter – golden profiteroles dripping with chocolate sauce. Now that’s for later though..
