Sri Lanka ranks 77th in Global Vaccination LeaderboardSri Lanka held the 77th position out of 154 countries in terms of the percentage of population that are fully vaccinated, given the first dose and the total vaccines administered as per ‘AP Hospitality Advisors’ based in Hong Kong.
In the recent index released by Bloomberg, Sri Lanka, as at 2nd September 2021, had 35.3% of its population fully vaccinated with 57% having got the 1st jab. The figures for each country in the list keep changing, but, it is the daily pace at which vaccines are administered - relative to the population, that matters in the final count.
Sri Lanka, administrating an average 363,000 doses daily, has done better than countries such as South Korea (82), Australia (90), Indonesia (122), Thailand (129), India (134), Taiwan (152) to name a few, that lag behind it. The Country is on course to fully vaccinate over 10 million of its total population by now.
Gibraltar, Malta, Maldives, Singapore, Qatar, Cayman Islands, Iceland, Isle of Man, Bahrain and Portugal make it to the top ten in the list. Singapore, which is in 4th place for highest full vaccination rate in the world, tops the countries in the Asian region. It has fully vaccinated 77% of its population with more than 80% having taken the first dose. It has also declared its intention to move from a COVID-zero approach to considering the coronavirus as something the country will have to learn to live with, in future.
China which currently occupies the 26th position in the Vaccination Leaderboard has administered both doses to nearly 64% of its population. Its daily average of administering 13.1 million doses is far superior to that of India’s 8.4 million, and, where only 11% of the population have been fully vaccinated in that country.
More than 5.48 billion vaccine doses have been administered worldwide, equal to 71 doses for every 100 people. Still a long way to go and the stark gap between vaccination programs in different countries is going to make it a challenge.
