Over 100 countries, all 7 continents, 3 years... in a boatIs this going to be a never-ending 3-year cruise?
When Life at Sea Cruises announced a world cruise specifically tailored to guests wanting to cruise, live, work and explore from their Home at Sea, the opportunity to spend 36 continuous months at sea sounded like a dream come true for some. For others, it was the ultimate bucket list World cruise – to cover 130,000 miles, explore 382 ports in 140 countries in 3 years.
The trip includes visits to 13 of the 14 wonders of the World- including the Colosseum in Rome, the Taj Mahal in India, the Great Wall of China and Machu Picchu in Peru. Curated excursions and educational opportunities that enable passengers to experience different cultures, cuisines and landmarks will enhance the experience.
Activities are not entirely land-based, the Life at Sea cruise includes the chance for everyone to explore the most coveted dive spots on the planet - from the exotic depths of the Maldives where you can snorkel and dive with whale sharks, to the majestic waters of the Great Barrier Reef. An exclusive Dive around the World program hosted by The Dive Place at Sea caters to divers of all levels and gives one the opportunity to advance their certification level. Also included are classes for beginners who can learn how to snorkel and become certified to dive!
The first sailing is scheduled to sail on 1st November 2023. Passengers will spend the trip aboard the MV Lara, which was built in 2003. It boasts 627 cabins with enough space to hold 1,266 passengers. But for this trip, only 532 of those cabins will be occupied, so the ship won’t feel too crowded, as Kendra Holmes, CEO of Miray Cruise, tells Julia Buckley of CNN. “My big focus is on public spaces,” she adds. “You don’t want to be cooped up in a cabin for three years.”
Passengers will receive an extensive package that includes almost everything they will need for their adventure. From entry to all Food & Beverage venues, Food with Alcohol, Entertainment with Live shows, Soft drinks, Tea & Coffee, Use of Gym and Fitness Centre, Laundry, Housekeeping services, Free Wi-Fi, onboard medical care and 24-hour-call service and be able to participate in a variety of activities and excursions, from Guided Tours and Land Adventures to Snorkel Tours and Kayaking.
While they aren’t the first to offer permanent (or semi-permanent) cruises, Life at Sea remains the only (relatively) affordable option for long-term cruising, says Holmes.“Its $3,500-$4,000 per month and you can go see the world. We can offer this to the average earner, or a person who just retired from the average job.”
Current pricing starts at $38,513 per year per person. Solo travelers pay an additional 85% for single occupancy.
Life at Sea Cruises reckons that people are so enthused by the idea of sailing around the world nonstop, that they’re going to continue the journey indefinitely, making it “the cruise that never ends.”
