Once feared stolen, woman's $800k diamond ring found in vacuum bag at Ritz ParisThe luxury hotel said that the ring was located in a vacuum cleaner bag, a French newspaper reported.
A Malaysian business manager's missing diamond ring, said to be worth over $800,000, was found in a vacuum cleaner bag at a famed Paris hotel, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.
Management of the Ritz Paris — which did not immediately return PEOPLE's request for comment — reportedly said that the ring resurfaced two days after the owner reported it missing to Paris police.
“Thanks to the careful search work of security agents, the ring was found this morning,” the hotel told Le Parisien, according to an English translation. "Our client is happy with this news. We would like to thank the Ritz Paris employees who were involved in this research and who work every day with integrity and professionalism."
The hotel also clarified that the ring's disappearance was not linked to theft, despite the guest's initial fear that it was stolen, per the report.
The guest's lawyers, Robin Binsard and Rebecca Childs, reportedly told Le Parisien, “We thank the police and the hotel teams who carried out the necessary investigations in record time,” per a translation.
The hotel said that it will be up to the prosecutor to either close the case or determine if the investigation continues, according to Le Parisien.
The ordeal began after the guest left the hotel to go shopping on Friday morning, per the report. Upon returning to the hotel, she reportedly noticed that the ring she left on a table in her room was missing.
Local authorities, as well as a rep for The Ritz Paris, initially declined to comment to PEOPLE.
"All leads are still being explored," a police source reportedly told Le Parisien after the ring went missing. "Everything is possible."
Le Parisien further reported that the tourist flew to London returned to Paris to pick up her ring. The Ritz said, per the French newspaper, that it offered the ring owner three free nights at the hotel as compensation for the inconvenience, but she declined.
