Daycations, Staycations...how does one attract the locals during COVID-19?Firstly you need to understand what each ‘cation’ means and how they differ.
Both Daycations and Staycations are ‘vacation-like’ experiences taken by people within the country of their residence.
Daycations (often called as a ‘day outing’ in local parlance), does not involve any overnight hotel stay - although, people can have access to a room, with early check-in and late check-out, the same day. It is a ‘mini-escape’ to get a blast of ‘relaxation’ without having to pack and plan a trip it is also light on one’s wallet. However, due to the limited timeframe, when the time comes to leave – some might feel that it was an incomplete getaway.
Staycations on the other hand, though more expensive, allows one to stay up late, sleep overnight, wake up late and to enjoy a leisurely breakfast – giving you the ‘full’ experience of a typical hotel stay, and, unlike daycations, not have to constantly check the time.
What do people look for when they come to spend the whole day on Daycations?
Attractive F & B offers, free access to the pool, discounted rates for use of spa facilities and treatments are some important aspects.lt should be a good deal where customers feel they are getting value-for-their- money.
Daycations aren’t always a ‘one-size-fits-all’ and hotels must consider whether they want to attract couples, families, groups or all of the above. Above all, hotels must recognise what they have that will appeal to the different types of customers.
Clearly those hotels with limited facilities and F&B offering will suffer as predominantly those taking advantage of a daycation offer are looking for rest and relation by the pool, beach, and/or a meal with or without family and friends.”
With every hotel is trying to lure those going on Daycations and Staycations, hotels will need to provide something that stands out or be lost in a sea of identical offers. Hotels that are inventive will not only to beat the pandemic but also to win over the competition. Differently curated offers - E.g. a ‘Get wet beach/pool package’ or a ‘Detox plan’ will serve different interests and budgets.
Many hotels are offering sizeable discounts, and, that’s a good thing. At the same time depending entirely on a price-cut to boost top-line revenue whilst corroding your balance sheet can spell disaster.
Finally, hygiene measures remain crucial even to reassure guests on daycations - even if such guests do not stay the night.
