Qatar Airways awarded ' Diamond' standard and '5-Star' COVID-19 safety ratingIn recognition of its commitment to providing the most rigorous and stringent virus monitoring, detection and COVID-19 safety programme throughout the end-to-end passenger flight experience, Qatar Airways was awarded the ‘Diamond’ standard. This highest level rating was accorded by the Airline Passenger Experience association (APEX). The industry’s most prestigious safety benchmark follows a rigorous audit of Qatar Airway’s COVID-19 hygiene and safety standards.
In addition, the airline received the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating from Skytrax – the international air transport organisation. The announcement comes after a detailed audit by Skytrax that mapped hygiene and safety standards and procedures from flight check-in to on-board aircraft that included on-board Adenosine Triposphate (ATP) sampling tests to measure potential level of contamination of contact surfaces.
Qatar Airways is one of the first airlines to formulate COVID-19 protocols. Every passenger on each flight receives a complimentary protective pack containing a single-use face mask, large disposable powder-free gloves and an alcohol-based hand sanitizer gel and disposable face shield. Onboard blankets and linen is washed, dried and pressed at microbial killing temperatures and all headsets are thoroughly sanitised after each flight. These items are then sealed into individual packaging by staff wearing hygienic disposable gloves.
Qatar Airways’ aircraft also features the most advanced air filtration systems, equipped with HEPA filters that remove 99.97% of viral and bacterial contaminants from re-circulated air, providing the most effective protection against infection.
It is the first global airline to operate Honeywell’s Ultraviolet (UV) Cabin System. The beverage-cart sized apparatus has extendable UV arms that treat aircraft seats, surfaces and cabins without using cleaning chemicals. Used after manual disinfection, as an additional step, the Honeywell UV Cabin System ensures the highest possible standards of cleanliness.
Qatar Airlines continues to deliver full dining experiences, comfort amenities and meticulous service – all incorporating the highest standards of safety and hygiene. Dine-on-demand food in Business Class is served fully covered with beverage selection. “Quisine” – the airlines full dining experience is available in Economy Class, with food and cutlery totally sealed as usual on a tray. Gourmet vegan dishes and limited edition menus continue to be on offer.
Cabin crew is provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which is fitted over their uniforms, in addition to safety glasses, gloves and a mask.
Not stopping there, the airline took the passenger’s end-to-end journey even beyond…From the very inception, as one enters Hamad International Airport (HIA), stringent cleaning procedures and robust social distancing measures apply throughout the airport. All passenger touchpoints are sanitised frequently. Boarding gates and counters are cleaned vigorously after each flight. HIA has adapted some of the latest technologies to maximize passenger safety, such as UV-C disinfectant robots – which are completely autonomous mobile devices emitting concentrated UV-C light that zap and reduce the spread of pathogens. These robots are deployed in high passenger flow zones. Additionally, check-in luggage is sanitised as they pass through UV disinfection tunnels.
