World's highest hotel opens in world's second tallest-building

The second tallest building in the world, the Shanghai Tower, which happens to be the tallest skyscraper in China, is now home to the world’s highest hotel. J – Hotel’s (managed by Shanghai Jinjiang J Hotel Management Co., Ltd), inaugural property sits atop the tower, and occupies the highest point in Shanghai.

Occupying the top floors (between floors 86 to 98) of the 632 – metre tower spiral and located slap bang in the centre of the Lujiazui financial centre, every one of its 165 rooms including 34 suites (between 61 square meters to 380 square metres) boasts unique views. Beginning at the Huangpu River and cutting through the heart of the city below, guests have access to Shanghai's diverse and spectacular urban scenery, from the nearby Bund and the Oriental Pearl Tower to a bird’s eye-view across from Hongqiao Airport in the west to the Yangtze Rivers entrance into the East China Sea.

Six crystal Roman columns beckon a welcome to guests who then are led to an eight-metre high shikumen (stately courtyard gates traditional to Shanghai), and then on to the 101st floor via a sky bridge of laminated glass and metal featuring ballerinas dancing across the sky in delicately threaded handcrafted metallics.

J Hotel Shanghai Tower features seven distinctive restaurants and bars on the 120th floor, serving modern European, Japanese and fine Chinese cuisines offering the art of fine dining amongst surrounding clouds. Each establishment has its own unique design and artistic décor, welcoming guests to enjoy spectacular views of Shanghai while feasting on diverse cuisines, fine wines and imaginative cocktails. A distinguishing feature is 30-metre Silk Road themed Italian mosaic that greets diners.

The Spa and Fitness Centre featuring a yoga room, as well as the 160-metre infinity pool with viewing deck is on the 84th floor.

Despite the hotel being right up where guests can sleep in the clouds…the current Guiness World Record for the world’s tallest hotel is held by Dubai’s Gevora Hotel at 356 metres. The title is awarded to hotels that occupy the entire building – not partially.
