Airport hotel at BIA will open in December 2022Whether it is an overnight stay or a quick nap to overcome flight jetlag or even re-fresh oneself for boarding a flight after a long road trip to the airport, travelers to BIA will soon be able to book star-class room to suit their needs.
A new airport hotel - the first of its kind at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) is scheduled to open next year in December as announced recently.
As per Colombo International Airport Hotels Ltd (CIAH), the promoters of the project the hotel will be built on land owned by Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Ltd, (who will partner CIAH).
The hotel will be a four-star property, featuring 185 bedrooms and include several restaurants and bars, a MICE centre, , a spa, swimming pool, a gym and a crew lounge It will also have a rooftop leisure lounge set in a tropical ambiance.
There will be three room types; Superior and Deluxe categories as well as Suites. All rooms will be fitted with world class amenities in keeping with international 4-star standards and the Suites, apart from being spacious, will feature special bedding, wardrobe space, personal massage chairs and private meeting and dining spaces.
Apart from adding value to the airport - which is currently seeing expansion work of Terminal 01 the hotel, located next to the airport, will be a welcome convenience to arriving / departing travelers, be it on business or leisure.
It will also target visitors to the nearby Free Trade Zone, as well as transit / delayed flight passengers and airline crews on layovers.
The principal architect for this project is Ichio Tetsuya from Ichio Kenchiku Kannkyyou Sekkei in Japan. The Chairman of Colombo International Airport Hotels Ltd, Dr.Ruwan Perera is confident that the hotel will be up and operating by December 2022.
