Sri Lanka ranked 5th in Conde Nast's 2021 'Best Countries in the World' readers choice awardsRegistered voters placed Sri Lanka 5th out of 20 best countries in the world that made the cut in Conde Nast’s 34th annual ‘Readers choice awards survey. It signals the kinds of places travelers longed to visit when they could not travel due to the pandemic and indicates the countries they prefer to return to first – now that the world is gradually reopening its borders. Each of the countries listed overcame the challenges posed by COVID-19 in their own resilient way to welcome international tourists back.
This is how Conde Nast described the pear shaped island in the Indian Ocean;-
“This South Asian nation packs a wallop into a teardrop-shaped island that’s only slightly larger than the state of West Virginia: Think high-elevation tea plantations that are eye-vibratingly green, national parks where sloth bears and endangered elephants roam free and friendly surf towns that, if you squint, might remind you of Costa Rica or Nicaragua some 10 years ago. And then there’s the capital city of Colombo, where you can shop for local spices, fly kites along the waterfront, or even charter a yacht. As Sri Lanka has worked in recent years to secure its spot as a global tourism contender, it has faced quite a few challenges, from the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings to the pandemic, and it’s looking to regain the trust of visitors with its trademark hospitality and good nature—not to mention an ever-expanding roster of new hotels and resorts.”
Elsewhere and on another note…rather listing, with a score of 98.8, the Galle Fort Hotel was ranked 6th by Condo Nast traveler readers out of 30 top hotels in Asia, (outside of Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore), from Bhutan to Indonesia.
