Passengers flying on Etihad Airlines are now allowed to travel with pets in the cabin

Dogs that are trained to assist a person afflicted with a qualifying physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual or mental disability, i.e. defined as a service animal, can now travel on all Etihad operated flights or in the cargo hold in addition the passenger’s checked baggage allowance.

Such pets can travel in addition to one’s cabin baggage allowance – where the total combined weight of the pet and travel bag or kennel must not exceed 8kg. The pet travel bag or kennel must not exceed 40x40x20cm (LxWxH) in Economy or 50x40x50cm (LxWxH) in Business and First class.

Furthermore, pet travel bags or kennels can’t exceed the under seat dimensions of any aircraft in the journey. Pets must be able to stand and sit erect, turn around normally and lie down in a natural position in their travel bag or kennel (without touching any side or the top). They are required to stay in the travel bag or kennel for the entire flight. The dog must sit within your seat space and be harnessed, leashed or tethered at all times on the flight.

If a passenger is eligible to access Etihad’s lounge in Abu Dhabi, he/she can bring the pet along too. Lounge access for pets at the airlines third-party lounges across its network is dependent on local acceptance policies. Regulations may vary depending on where one is flying from, so always check well in advance.

Service dogs must behave properly in public. They will not be accepted in the cabin if they display any form of disruptive behaviour, which may include growling, biting, jumping or causing damage to the cabin.

Dogs classified as dangerous and posing a danger are banned. They include; - Pit Bulls, Mastiff Dogs, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers and Boxers any mixed breed of the named breeds of dog or their Hybrid.

In cases of a guest with an allergy statement and a guest with a pet request travelling on the same flight, the request of the guest who made the first reservation shall be confirmed.

Note: Emotional support animals, comfort animals, companionship animals and service animals-in-training aren’t considered service animals.
